DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite - Police officers helped a mother deliver her baby on the street near the barangay hall of San Nicholas II on Saturday (August 21).
The mother was on her way to the hospital but failed to make it on time.
Police officers and police multiplier group Police Hotline Movement, Inc. (PHMI) Dasmariñas City, Cavite Chapter, were in the area for a clean-up drive when the incident happened.
"Before we started the program, we were taking group pictures for records. All of a sudden, we heard a woman yelling," PHMI-Dasmariñas Secretary April Grace Samson told the Manila Bulletin.
"A lady was shouting, 'Labas na ulo! Labas na ulo ng bata (the child's head is already visible).'"
PCpl. Juvy Anne Hilvano, who was taking photos with Samson, immediately came to the rescue. Luckily, she is also a registered nurse.
The infant just came out when Hilvano got to the patient. The police officer immediately took the baby and wrapped her in her mother's shawl. She then asked bystanders to borrow a clamp and a pair of scissors.
"Nagkataon lang din siguro na nurse din ako, kaya nakadagdag din na hindi nagugulat sa mga pagkakataon na ganun (Coincidentally, I'm also a nurse, so situations like that don't shock me)," Hilvano told the Manila Bulletin.
PCpl. Analisa Alano, PSSg. Daisy Dimapilis, and PSSg. Mark Sidlacan also assisted the mother.
Not long after, a midwife from a nearby lying-in clinic came to help and take the mother and child to the clinic.
