More groups have expressed their intention to join the call for Vice President Leni Robredo to run for president in the 2022 elections, Team Leni Robredo (TLR) said.
In a statement, TLR convenor Joseph Quesada said there was now a snowballing of Robredo's possible presidential bid next year since the group was launched on June 12.
According to Quesada, many groups have expressed their support for Vice President Robredo and their intention to help in her possible presidential run.
"We are very enthusiastic that many people and group are putting their hopes on Vice President Leni Robredo amid these times of uncertainty," he said.
According to Quesada, groups like Leni Urban Poor, Nagkakaisang Tugon, Dapat si Leni, Let Leni Lead, Women for Leni, SAMASA UP Alumni Association, Bikers for Leni, and Solid Leni Bicol have joined the call.
Teachers for Leni, NCR for Leni, Iloilo for Leni, and Pangasinan for Leni will conduct their launches on August 21, 2021.
Quesada said other groups that have expressed intention to help Robredo’s candidacy will formalize their coalition with TLR, including professionals, bankers, the LGBTQ community, and youth organizations, among others.
"We are also strengthening our alliances with other regional groups to beef up our ground support. We need to be ready if the Vice President accepts the challenge and throws her hat in the presidential race," he said.
He said the groups will culminate on August 30 during a people’s convention to manifest that Robredo supporters can muster a massive movement through humility, hard work, and authenticity.
"We will build a strong coalition to ensure Vice President Robredo’s win in 2022. We need her to stop the attempt of this administration to hold on to power," Quesada said.
Robredo has yet to make up her mind about her political plans in 2022. Her spokesman Barry Gutierres, however, said Robredo's first option was still to run for president.
