Gwen believes 'beach party' complaint against son-in-law politically motivated
CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia believed that politics was the motive behind the filing of an anonymous complaint against her son-in-law Cebu 5th District Duke Frasco in connection with an alleged beach party in Camotes Island.
Garcia questioned the timing of the release of some videos showing some people supposedly violating health protocols during the event.
“The fact speaks for itself. On July 10th, Cebu province was still under MGCQ (modified general community quarantine). I guess it was very malicious to send that kind of video now,” Garcia told reporters Wednesday.
The complaint filed against Frasco and Provincial Board Member stemmed from the holding of Friendship Ride/Run that “Team Frasco” spearheaded in Camotes Island last July 10.
Frasco is the husband of Garcia’s daughter, Liloan Mayor Christina.
The governor surmised that the unnamed complainant tried to “present a totally different impression that this was happening right now when Cebu is under GCQ with heightened restrictions.”
Under MGCQ, non-contact, outdoor contact sports were allowed.
Garcia added that the issue is being politicized.
“The fact this video surfaced only now from an anonymous sender thus raised the question, first of all, it was obviously malicious and when it becomes malicious, there is always a motive and what other motive can we think of except that as the elections draw near for some people everything seems to be about politics,” said Garcia.
In shrugging off the complaint, the governor issued a challenge against the group behind the move.
“They better try harder because I don’t think the Secretary of Interior and Local Government would appreciate the fact that they tried to fool him into thinking that this activity happened when Cebu has been placed under GCQ,” Garcia said.
