Enrollment for SY 2021-2022 now at 5 million --- DepEd

There are more than five million enrollees in both public and private schools for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 based on the latest data from the Department of Education (DepEd).

Based on the “Quick Count” for SY 2021-2022, there are 5,000, 177 learners enrolled in public schools, private schools and State Universities and Colleges/Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs) that offer basic education as of Wednesday, Aug. 18.

This enrollment data includes the number of incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 who participated in the Early Registration held in March to May this year. As of June 2, DepEd has recorded 4.5 million early registrants for the incoming SY.

Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees with a running total of 603, 484 followed by Region VII with 416, 107 and Region VI with 412, 275.

The National Capital Region (NCR) has a running total of 375, 374 enrollees.

As part of its preparation for the opening of classes in public schools on Sept. 13, DepEd started conducting the regular enrollment period on Aug. 16.

On the third day, there are 442, 850 learners who enrolled for the incoming SY according to the latest data.

The “Quick Count” - which uses the Learner Information System (LIS) as the database - showed that there are 395, 717 learners who are currently enrolled in public schools; 45, 562 in private schools and 1, 571 in SUCs/LUCs.

Meanwhile, DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan stressed that the said enrollment data is still subject to some changes.

“Like last year, this is based on Quick Count, meaning this is from submission by field of number of enrollees,” Malaluan said. “There are still possible duplicates,” he added.

Should there be “duplicates,” Malaluan said that these will be “corrected automatically” once the Beginning of the School Year (BOSY) module of the student profile starts on Sept. 13.

The unique Learner Reference Number (LRN) of students, he added, will also resolve these duplicates.

Due to the ongoing public health situation in the country brought about by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, DepEd is implementing a remote enrollment system to ensure everyone's safety.
