‘Indie Nation’ by Cinemalaya offers a handful of short films

Aside from the four full-length films curated for the “Indie Nation” section of this year’s festival, Cinemalaya also features a handful of short films that are divided into three programs.

‘Regta’ by Gab Gantala

Program A consists of films such as the short animation “Maris” by Gabb Gantala and “I Will Die For You” by Jaime Morados, which narrates about a young Filipino boy fueled by the words of the Philippine President, who tries to fulfil his dream of becoming a policeman on his birthday. There is also “Konsumatumes” by Gio Gonzales, the four-minute film “Phone Call” by Direk Bee, “Basol Balos” by Tonny A. Abad, and “Sol” by Joanna Vasquez Arong, which follows the lives of two sisters living in a small village where tensions have been rising ever since drugs infiltrated their lives along with the relief efforts that came after the storm.

‘Salidumay’ by Dexter Macaraeg

Moving to program B, it is composed of features such as “This Day” by Red Aquino, “Regta” by Gabb Gantala, “Paraiso” by Charles Hilado and Seb Valdez, “10,000 Errors” by Giullienne Sanchez, “Hija” by Christian Paul Lim, “Maratabat” by Abdul Rashid Lao, and “Don’t Worry We Still Hear You” by Martika Ramirez Escobar.

‘Pugon’ by Gabby Ramos

Concluding with program C are “Rekwerdo” by Juls D Bauang, “Salidumay” by Dexter Macaraeg, “Yawyaw ni JP” by Sine Sanyata, “Baba Jalhana” by Ram Esteban Estael, “Last 234!” by Genevieve Ofiana, and “Pugon” by Gabby Ramos, a film that follows 14-year-old Sonia, a girl full of dreams who comes from a fishing village and is thrown into a pawnship slavery to pay the debt of her poor parents.
