Cagayan mayors asked to prepare more burial sites for COVID-19 victims

CAGAYAN – Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba urged all mayors in this province to prepare a mass burial site in their town due to the continuous rise in the number of deaths in COVID-19.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said Mamba had asked the mayors to prepare for the impact of COVID-19, noting the threat of Delta Variant in the province.

"Kung tatlo, apat o lima ang namamatay kada araw sa isang lugar, problema po yan kung saan natin ililibing? Pakiusap ko sa mga local government na maghanda kayo ng burial site. The Provincial Government will also prepare an area for a common burial site for our casualties," said Mamba.

A report from the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) revealed that on, August 16, 14 people died of COVID-19 throughout Cagayan.

Four were from the town of Buguey and Tuguegarao City; three in Solana; one in Aparri, Iguig, and Sta. Ana.

More than 10 people have been dying every day in Cagayan since August 12 based on the PESU report.

The total number of deaths in the province due to COVID-19 already reached 600. Tuguegarao City had the most COVID-19 deaths at 186, followed by Baggao (43); Solana (38); Aparri (29); and Tuao (21).

“We have to prepare for the worst. It seems morbid sabi nga ni Gov pero it’s a reality we had to face,” Cagayan Information Officer Rogie Sending told Manila Bulletin.

Likewise, Mamba asked each and everyone to pray.

"We always pray for the best but we have to prepare for the worst. I beg all of us, let's intensify our preparations even more. The variant (Delta) we have here is different. It spreads quickly," said Mamba.
