Unexploded bombs hit houses in Dolores clash


TACLOBAN CITY - Some unexploded bombs from the military airstrike in Dolores, Eastern Samar allegedly hit at least two houses of civilians Monday, August 16 in Brgy. Cabaguan.

The bombs created holes in the ceilings of the houses, whose names of owners were withheld for security.

Earlier today, 16 suspected members of the New People's Army were reportedly killed in an encounter between the 52nd Infantry Battalion and the Philippine Air Force and members of the communist terrorists group in Brgy. Osmena of said town.

While the Army is celebrating its victory in dismantling an improvised explosive device (IED) in Brgy. Osmeña, Dolores, Eastern Samar, at least two households in Brgy. The AFP said the encounter started at around 4:00 a.m. The series of firefights lasted until 5:00 p.m.

The government troops were responding to information received regarding the presence of CTGs in their bomb-making hideouts in the area.

There was no recorded casualty on the side of the government forces.

At least 29 high-powered firearms were recovered from the CTGs, including a laptop.

The 52nd IB conducted a clearing operation while 78th IB went to the area for reinforcement.

All police stations were alerted and directed to conduct synchronized checkpoint to intercept fleeing enemies, and conduct visitation in all hospitals and health centers for the possible presence of wounded armed rebels.
