The mission stays the same with Manny Pacquiao despite the sudden change of opponent from unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. to super WBA titlist Yordenis Ugas.
The Filipino boxing legend is out for a comeback since beating Keith Thurman in July 2019, almost two years of hiatus in the sport that changed his life.
For MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons, the new bout against the Cuban boxer at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 21 there will serve as a "poetic justice" for the Filipino senator should he win.

"Here's the biggest thing: The Senator got his belt stripped off by the WBA and gave it to Ugas so in a poetic justice, the Senator is going back to fight Ugas and get his belt back," said Gibbons in a recent interview with former PBA commissioner Noli Eala in his sports program Power and Play.
Aside from that, Gibbons added that Pacquiao, who has 62 wins on top of 37 knockouts, seven defeats, and two draws at hand, is set to break his own record in becoming the oldest welterweight to win a belt if he beats Ugas.
He achieved that feat when he scored a unanimous decision win against Thurman at age 40.

The MP Promotions chief, however, warned the public not to underestimate Ugas in the same way that Pacquiao never belittled any of his opponents.
In an earlier interview with international press, the 42-year-old Pacquiao said it was a good thing that Ugas was in their undercard and competes in the same weight division.

Gibbons echoed that sentiment and said, "He's (Ugas) been preparing to fight. He's in tremendous shape and of course, he's a downgrade coz Errol Spence is undefeated, pound for pound best welterweight. But don't sleep on Yordenis Ugas."
As an amateur, Ugas, 35, captured gold medal in the 2005 World Championships and bagged bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a lightweight boxer.
He also reigned supreme in the national championships for three years from 2005 to 2008 before traveling to the United States to begin his professional career in March 2010.
Despite a controversial split decision loss against Shawn Porter in their WBC welterweight title bout in March 2019, it was considered as Ugas' breakthrough fight and the first time he competed for a major belt.
Ugas beat American Abel Ramos in September 2020 for the then-vacant regular WBA title before being elevated to its "super" champion after Pacquiao got denied of his appeal for reinstatement last month.
