BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said that in compliance with a resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the travel restriction will be extended anew up to Aug. 31.

The ban covers passengers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Oman, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The restriction also includes passengers who have been in the said states 14 days prior to their arrival in the Philippines.

Morente said airline companies have already been instructed not to board passengers from these Middle Eastern and Asian countries.

BI port operations chief, lawyer Carlos Capulong clarified that incoming Filipinos under the government's repatriation program are exempted from the ban, but will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, passengers who transited or had a mere layover in the 10 countries are not covered by the extended ban.
