The UST Central Student Council (CSC) President Krizia Bricio said the distribution is part of the university's "Connectivity Assistance Program."

Bricio said the council was tapped by ex-Engineering Dean Philipina Marcelo to find students in need of Internet connectivity assistance.

Each pocket WiFi unit comes with eight gigabytes of data per month for five to seven months or one term.

The 1,000 units that will be distributed were excess units from last year.

Students who will be chosen will be required to pay a P300 reconnection fee.

UST introduced the program in the second term of AY 2019 -2020.
