More than 15 women's organizations expressed support for Gabriela partylist amid calls for the cancellation of registration of the progressive group.

In a joint statement, Girls For Peace lamented the disqualification case against Gabriela Women's Party, saying it is a "demonstration of the administration's capacity to weaponize the law to stifle dissent."

"For 20 years, Gabriela Women's Party has been engaged in parliamentary work, representing women, children, and the broader Filipino masses. They have also been actively opposing fascist policies such as the Anti-Terror Law and calling out President Duterte himself for his sexist remarks and policies," the statement read.

"For this reason, they have been the target of the fascist administration's crackdown on progressive individuals and groups," it further read.

The groups said the legal threat against the partylist is also "a threat to the lives of its members nationwide and the disenfranchised sectors whom they represent."

"We stand firm in our belief that the Filipino people have the right and the responsibility to dissent. We also stand firm in our belief that there is no place for state-sanctioned violence and that there is no peace without the attainment of justice," they added.

On Friday, Aug. 13, National Security Council Director Hermogenes Esperon Jr. disclosed that he has supported the cancellation of the election registration of Gabriela Women's Party, saying that the party is allegedly receiving financial assistance from foreign governments and agencies.
