DOH reports over 13K COVID-19 cases; active infections rise to 96K

The number of fresh coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases being reported daily continue to rise as 13,177 new infections were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, August 13.

The fresh cases set the second-highest number of new cases reported in a single-day. This is the third straight day that the Philippines recorded more than 12,000 cases.

The highest number of cases in a single day was logged last April 2 with 15,310 cases then.

Of the total case count, 96,395 are active cases. Of these patients, 95.8 percent have mild symptoms, one percent were asymptomatic, 0.8 percent were critical, 1.4 percent were in severe condition, and 0.97 percent have moderate symptoms.

The death count in the Philippines is also nearing the 30,000-mark. The death toll already jumped to 29,838 after 299 more patients died due to COVID-19. The case fatality rate, however, is still at 1.74 percent.

Meanwhile, the recovery count also climbed by 4,322 to 1,587,069 -- which is 92.6 percent of the total number of cases.

“Iwasan nating maging kampante sa anumang oras o sitwasyon upang mapigilan ang tuluyang pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa bansa (Let us avoid being complacent at any time or situation to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the country),” the DOH said.

“Sundin nating mabuti ang ating Minimum Public Health Standards at iwasang manghula sa oras na makaramdam ng anumang sintomas ng COVID-19 (Let's strictly follow our Minimum Public Health Standards and avoid predicting when we feel any symptoms of COVID-19),” it added.
