‘Ganito kami sa Makati’: Son shares story of dad’s P17,000 free maintenance medicines

Senior citizens in Makati City receive their medicines right at their doorstep, and they are free!

That’s how the local government unit (LGU) treats its seniors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a now-viral Facebook post by Robert “Bob” Reyes, he shared that he was shocked when he received over P17,000 worth of maintenance medicines and vitamins of his 65-year-old father, Rogelio Reyes who is diabetic.

“Dumating ‘yung maintenance medicines ng tatay ko, worth P17,000 plus tapos wala kaming babayaran (The maintenance medicines of my father were delivered to our house, it is worth over P17,000 and we did not pay anything),” he said.

“Tapos wala man lang mukha ng politicians ‘yung paper bag ng mga gamot (And the paper bag containing the medicines does not have the faces of politicians imprinted on it)?”

Reyes, who is a columnist of the Manila Bulletin, said that taxes of the people are being spent well through such projects of the Makati LGU that help many pandemic-affected residents.

“Hindi nakakahinayang magbayad ng taxes (I don't regret paying taxes),” he said.

Reyes shared that the friends of his father, who are also residing in Makati, enjoy the same benefits from the city government.

Since the pandemic hit the country, the city government of Makati has been proactively providing the needs of its residents, especially the senior citizens.
