Manila Vice Mayor Ma. Shielah "Honey" Lacuna Pangan confirmed Sunday (August 8) that she tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"Nais ko pong ipabatid na ako po ay nagpositibo sa COVID-19 ngayong hapon, Agosto 8, 2021 (I want to inform all of you that I have tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon, August 8," she said.

"Sa kabila ng matinding pag-iingat ay hindi ko lubos na inaasahan ang nakakalungkot na resulta. Dahil dito, kinakailangan kong pansumandaling mag pahinga at magpagaling (Despite being extremely cautious, I did not fully expect the result. Because of this, I need to rest for a while and recover)," she added.

Pangan also asked for prayers and advised the public to stay vigilant and follow the safety protocols.

On Sunday (August 8), the local government recorded 157 new infections, increasing the total number of current active cases to 987, and bringing the total tally to 69,962.

It also recorded 126 new recoveries and eight deaths.
