'Always giving his best': Japan envoy salutes Paalam's dedication, wishes him more success


Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam is reaping praises for his silver medal finish in the Tokyo Olympics.

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa is the latest official to congratulate Paalam after he captured the silver medal at this year's Games. The ambassador lauded Paalam for his awe-inspiring power and dedication and wished the Filipino boxer more triumphs in the boxing ring.

"An electrifying match! Congratulations to boxer Carlo Paalam for punching in a silver medal with for the Philippines," the ambassador tweeted Saturday, August 7.

"Always giving his best, Mr. Paalam's #Tokyo2020 journey displayed his power and focus. I salute his dedication to the craft and hope for more success in the future," he added.

Paalam took home the silver after yielding to Galal Yafai of the United Kingdom in the men’s flyweight finals Saturday. The Filipino boxer's silver catch brings the country's total medal haul to four in the Tokyo Olympics.

When Paalam earlier secured a spot in the gold medal match, the Japanese ambassador also sent his congratulations to the boxer. He tweeted that securing another medal for the Philippines was "a huge accomplishment on his Olympic debut."

In a post on Twitter, the British Embassy in Manila also offered congratulations to both Yafai and Paalam on their boxing performance.
