Sulu prov'l police director gunned down by subordinate

THE quarantine control point where Bayawan was shot dead.

The Police Provincial Director of Sulu was shot and killed by a police staff sergeant at a quarantine control point in Barangay Asturias in Jolo at around 4:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6.

The victim was identiifed as Police Col. Michael C. Bayawan, 49, married.

A PNP initial investigation disclosed that Bayawan was passing by the quarantine control point at 4:15 p.m. when he engaged in a heated argument with the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Police Staff Sgt. Imran A. Jilah, shot Bayawan amid their heated discussion.

Bayawan’s security escort retaliated and shot Jilah, killing him.

The victim was rushed to the Sulu Provincial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
