San Juan LGU to impose liquor ban anew; to distribute quarantine passes to residents
The San Juan City local government announced on Monday, August 2, that it will once again implement its city wide liquor ban as Metro Manila reverts to the more restrictive Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting August 6 in its bid to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, especially the more contagious Delta variant.

"Alinsunod sa City Ordinance No 38, Series of 2021, muling ipinatutupad ang City Ordinance No 24, Series of 2021 o ang liquor ban sa lungsod ng San Juan. Ito ay magsisimula sa August 6, 2021 (In accordance with City Ordinance No 38, Series of 2021, City Ordinance No 24, Series of 2021, the city wide liquor ban will once again be implemented in the City of San Juan starting on August 6, 2021)," Zamora said in his Facebook post.
"Ipinagbabawal ang pagbebenta ng alak sa mga establisyimento, pagdadala at pagiinom sa mga pampublikong lugar sa San Juan habang nasa krisis na dulot ng COVID-19 (The selling, purchase, and drinking of liquor in public areas in San Juan are all prohibited as the city battles the crisis brought about by COVID-19)," he added.
Zamora said the city will once again require its residents to use quarantine passes starting August 6.

"Ito po ang Quarantine Pass na ating gagamitin sa San Juan para sa ECQ na magsisimula ngayong August 6. Ito po ay bahay bahay na ipapamahagi ng ating mga barangay officials simula August 5 (This is an example of the Quarantine Pass that we will use in San Juan for the ECQ starting August 6. The barangay officials will go house to house to distribute the passes starting August 5)," Zamora said.
The mayor said that each family will be given one quarantine pass to limit the number of people going out of their houses to purchase essential items.
He added that Authorized Persons Outside their Residence (APOR) will not be required to bring a quarantine pass. Instead, they may just show an ID or any proof that they are working in a business or establishment allowed to operate during ECQ.
The city government had previously said that active COVID-19 cases in the city have doubled after only a month. It recorded 181 active COVID-19 cases, 9,247 recoveries, and 229 deaths as of July 31, more than double the 88 active cases last July 1.
