No plenary sessions in Senate during ECQ in Metro Manila


Senators have decided not to hold plenary sessions from August 9 to 23 following the scheduled reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III disclosed to reporters that the chamber will suspend its hybrid plenary sessions for the next two weeks.

"I will suspend on Wednesday (August 3) until August 23 without prejudice to my calling a possible session before the 23rd if it becomes necessary," he said in a message Monday night, August 2.

As for committee hearings, Sotto said committee chairpersons may hold such "as long as virtual only so that the employees will not be exposed."

The Senate initially planned to suspend sessions only from August 9 to 11 in the wake of the reimposition of the ECQ.

Metro Manila will be again be placed under the strictest community quarantine from August 6 to 20.
