Kara David on using Taylor Swift, Gloc-9's songs as reference in teaching journalism

GMA News reporter Kara David recently talked about why she uses Taylor Swift and Gloc-9 as models when teaching journalism to students.

In an interview on "The Howie Severino Podcast," the award-winning broadcast journalist said that aside from her being a "fan" of those pop artists, she sees them as "smart" musicians who both could infuse stories in their lyrics.

Kara related that as a music fan, she enjoys listening to the songs and memorizing the lyrics. Then, analyzing the meaning behind every word.

It all started with her composer mother, Karina David, whom she noted is her model for lyrical writing.

She vividly remembered how they would listen to the likes of James Taylor and Carol King.

Then, Kara would join her mother in writing some poems.

"That's how my mother trained me," she said.

Anyway, in terms of using songs as references, Kara revealed she realized the effectiveness of it as her lessons stick more in the heads of her students at the University of the Philippines than other style.
