How do we thank thee? Let us count the ways
Congratulations are pouring in on social media after Hidilyn Diaz won the first-ever Olympic gold for the Philippines. And she won not just one but two.
Netizens are going crazy posting different photos of Hidilyn as they send congratulations, and express pride and gratitude for the Filipina athlete.
Artists Mary May Dacanay and Allen Je Cordua Villorente created intricate leaf art to hail the Olympian. Meanwhile, Jaypee Bacera Magno, a seaman from Iloilo, drew Hidilyn’s face on bread and the Olympic logo on a plate using a chocolate spread.
Moreover, there are also brands that paid tribute to the 30-year-old weightlifter through a creative post on social media.
To congratulate Hidilyn, Dunkin' made a statement: “Lakas ng Pilipina, Lakas ng Pilipinas.” It is, arguably, one of the most unique ways of showing gratitude to the female weightlifter.
Another creative post is a photo of a tire uploaded by Toyota. The car tire triggered questions, but their copy says it all: “Thanks for the lift, Hidilyn.”
Max’s Restaurant didn’t let the opportunity pass by putting the caption "To the max" on a photo of Hidilyn lifting a barbell.
Congratulating Hidilyn through graphic art also demonstrates ingenious thinking, like what Mega sardines did by using a gold can lid to represent the Olympic gold medal.
The simple illustration of McDonald’s showing a yellow silhouette of Hidilyn lifting weights above an arc is also quite clever.
All these show that Pinoys know how to honor and appreciate the woman of the hour, the Pinay who has shown the country what it means to “power-through” difficulties.
