Nesthy Petecio overpowered Colombia’s Yeni Marcela Arias Castañeda to advance to the boxing semifinal of the women’s 54-57kgs in the Tokyo Olympics Wednesday.

Petecio’s quality combination shots gained all the judges nods with three scoring 29-28 and two giving 30-27 for the Filipino fighter.

The win assured Petecio of at least a bronze medal and inched her two wins away from clinching the country’s second Olympic gold medal in Tokyo following Hidilyn Diaz’ feat in weightlifting.

This is also assured the country of multiple medalists in the Olympics for the first time since the 1932 Los Angeles edition.
