Benilde congratulates Hidilyn Diaz for Olympic win


The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) and La Salle Greenhills President Dr. Edmundo "Dodo" Fernandez FSC congratulated Hidilyn Diaz on becoming the first Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal.

"Hidilyn has lifted the Filipino pride and spirit with this historic feat! We are one with the whole nation in celebrating Hidilyn's outstanding triumph and we are very proud of her hard work and extraordinary commitment as a Blazer, and a Filipino athlete," Fernandez said in a statement.

"May Hidilyn's victory bring hope and inspiration to Filipinos all around the world. Let us continue to support our Filipino athletes as they blaze in the Olympics. Animo Benilde! Mabuhay ang Atletang Pilipino!"

Diaz received a scholarship at CSB where she pursued a degree in Business Management in 2017.

On Monday night, July 26, Diaz delivered the first-ever Olympic gold medal for the Philippines after ruling the women's 55kg weightlifting event.

The 30-year-old Zamboanga native ended the country’s Olympic long medal drought with a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Diaz also bagged the country’s first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games.
