1st alarm raised as Marikina River hits 15 meters


First alarm was raised after the water level of Marikina River reached 15 meters at 11:18 a.m., Tuesday (July 27), Marikina City Rescue 161 said.

This was marked by loud sirens alerting residents in low-lying areas of possible evacuation. They should pack all their important belongings that they will bring to the evacuation site.

Once the river hits 16 meters, the second alarm will be raised signaling people to evacuate and go to the nearest evacuation camp in their area.

Forced evacuation will be done by the city government should the water level of Marikina River hits 18 meters.

Around 9 p.m., the water level of the river reached 14.8 meters following the downpour.

Marikina Rescue 161 said Manggahan Floodway's eight gates are currently open.

For any emergency, Marikina residents may dial 161 to contact the rescue unit of the city government.
