Senate run: Lucy thankful but still undecided

TACLOBAN CITY - Leyte 4th District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez has not yet finalized her plans for the 2022 elections according to her husband Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez.

Last week, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who earlier announced that he and Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will run for the top positions in the country, said that they will be including the congresswoman in their tandem’s slate for senatorial bets.

"She is thankful that Tito Sotto welcomed the inclusion of Lucy in the senatorial team," Mayor Gomez, who is still in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) last week said.

Their family remains in isolation for two days despite Lucy and their daughter Juliana testing negative from the virus.

"According to Lucy, she will give it a little more time to decide on what she wants to do in the coming days. She knows that she is in good hands with Tito and Lacson," he added.

Sotto is the party chair of the National People's Coalition (NPC), while Lucy is a member of the ruling Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP-Laban), whose members, in a resolution, urged President Rodrigo Duterte to run as vice-president.

Gomez has earlier announced that he and Lucy, who is on her last term in congress will be switching positions. However, the representative has also welcomed the possibility of running for a higher post.

Also included in the possible Lacson-Sotto tandem are former senator JV Ejercito; Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero; Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian; Sen. Richard Gordon; DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan; former Comelec commissioner Goyo Larrazabal; Antique Rep. Loren Legarda; Sen. Joel Villanueva; and Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri.
