"Yesterday, July 26, we were notified that two residents tested positive for the Delta variant. These residents, a nine-year old and a 25-year old, were already tagged as recovered as of July 15 after undergoing 14-day quarantine. They tested positive by the end of June," Zamora said.

"The 25-year-old female patient was tested by a private hospital on June 28 and the result was given to the City Health Office (CHO) on July 1. She was asymptomatic and finished her quarantine on July 13. She works in a call center in another city in Metro Manila," he added.

Meanwhile, the nine-year-old male patient was symptomatic with fever and, upon testing, his parents were also COVID-19 positive. The contact tracing concluded that the boy's father is an officemate of the 25-year-old patient and was a close contact.

Zamora said that the father was symptomatic with cough and colds while his wife was asymptomatic. The family underwent quarantine at the Kalinga Center, one of San Juan's quarantine facilities, and stayed there from July 1 until July 15.

"We only received information yesterday that they were indeed Delta variant cases, almost a week after they had completed their quarantine. Only the Philippine Genome Center has the capacity to conduct Genome Sequencing," Zamora said.

The mayor assured the public that the city government is doing everything to stop the spread of the Delta variant. He said that they are now conducting intense contact tracing for the close contacts of the said patients.
