Police sarge nabbed for extorting money from police applicants

Police arrested on Monday night, July 26, a police sergeant for allegedly trying to extort money from applicants in exchange for their inclusion in the final list of those who would graduate from the training this month.

Nabbed Police Master Sgt. Edmud Delos Reyes who was arrested right in front of Camp Crame in Quezon City at around 7:30 p.m. in an entrapment conducted by agents of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

IMEG Director Police Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo said Delos Reyes is a document examiner of the PNP Health Service which is in charge of some of the examinations for police applicants.

“He was offering to facilitate the application of aspiring policemen to be included in the final list of new police officers who will take oath on July 30 this year in exchange for P6,000,” said Dongbo.

“He was placed under arrest after receiving the marked money,”he added.

Seized from him were two P1,000 marked money, a mobile phone and a PNP identification card.

“This Office had a prior information from the Crime Lab Group regarding this modus of their personnel. We will identify his accomplices in the service so that they will also be dismissed from the PNP,” said Dongbo.

Delos Reyes is now facing a criminal case of robbery extortion and separate administrative cases wherein the maximum penalty is dismissal from the service.

Dongbo called on the public to report the PNP personnel (Uniformed and Non-Uniformed) involved in any irregularities to the PNP-IMEG hotlines: SMART – 09989702286 or GLOBE- 09957952569.
