Filipinos were having their dinner when news spread like wildfire: Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz had just broken an Olympic jinx for the Philippines, winning the country’s first gold medal in the quadrennial games on Monday, July 25, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan.

This nearly overshadowed the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte, who took two hours and 45 minutes to deliver what he called was his “Last Hurrah”, outlining his accomplishments in the first five years of his term, and his aspirations for his last months in office.
