QC gov’t prepares to stop entry of COVID-19 Delta variant into the city

The Quezon City government is taking all possible measures to stop the entry or spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the city.

“Ang amin pong mindset dito sa Quezon City ngayon, we treat every positive case now as a possible Delta variant (Our mindset here in Quezon City today is we treat every positive case now as a possible Delta variant),” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in an interview with DZMM on Friday.

The city mayor said she already formed an Inter-Agency Task Force that will implement all possible efforts to stop the spread of the Delta Variant.

“We set up Task Force Delta variant, ito po ay isang inter-agency task force via an executive order na ang layunin lang po talaga ay tutukan ang iba’t ibang mga interventions na dapat nating gawin para mabilis nating i-address ang virus na ito (We set up Task Force Delta variant, this is an inter-agency task force via an executive order whose purpose is to focus on the various interventions to quickly address this virus),” she said.

Mayor Belmonte also said that they are speeding up the vaccination of Senior citizens who are very vulnerable to the Delta variant.

“Kailangan talagang matapos ang pagbabakuna ng mga senior citizens kasi sila ang pinaka vulnerable sector at kung sila ay tamaan ng Delta variant ay medyo baka alanganin ang kanilang mga buhay (Senior citizens really need to be vaccinated because they are the most vulnerable sector and if they are hit by the Delta variant, their lives may be in danger),” she said.

The city has only vaccinated about 52- 53 percent of the 300,000 senior citizens in the city.

Belmonte also said that they are procuring different medical equipment in preparation for the possible surge in Delta variant cases.

“We are in the process of procuring the different equipment na kakailanganin ng atin pong ospital should a surge happen. Ngayon, may projections po kaming ginawa...nung surge ng UK variant we were having about 1,100 active cases a day so ang projections ngayon ay medyo I-OA na natin kasi Delta ito at mas nakakahawa. We are projecting 2,200 active cases a day (We are in the process of procuring the different equipment that our hospital will need should a surge happen..because this is Delta and it is more contagious. We are projecting 2,200 active cases a day),” she said.

“We are equipping our hospitals, nagdagdag po tayo ng isolation facilities, in-upgrade din po natin ang mga facilities na ito. At the moment, we have about 3,000 counting in na po yung sa barangay at sa city-run isolation (We are equipping our hospitals. We have added isolation facilities. We have also upgraded these facilities. And at the moment, we have about 3,000 counting in the barangay and the city-run isolation facilities),” she added.
