Grandpa facing 39 counts of rape nabbed in Cagayan

CAMP TIRSO H. GADOR, Tuguegarao City – A 64-year-old grandfather facing 39 counts of rape filed by his minor granddaughter two years ago was arrested last Saturday in Piat, Cagayan, police said Wednesday.

According to a report from the Cagayan police, the victim was repeatedly raped by his grandfather starting March 2018.

Police learned that the victim did not immediately report the sexual abuse as the suspect threatened to kill her and her siblings.

One day, however, she tried to tell her father about the sexual abuse, but her father did not believe her.

Despite her fear, she continued to ask for help until in 2019, her grandmother – after learning of her ordeal – accompanied her to the police to file her complaint against her grandfather.

On July 19, 2021, combined forces of the Piat police and the 17th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, arrested the suspect known as “Voltaire.” He was nabbed on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Edmar P. Castillo of the Regional Trial Court, Second Judicial Region, Branch 11 for the crime of rape (39 counts) without bail.

He is now under the custody of Piat police station.
