TACLOBAN CITY – Children would usually want cake, ice cream, and spaghetti for their birthday parties but a boy in Maasin City in Southern Leyte had a different wish for his 11th birthday.
"Happy birthday dong, hinaot unta nga tagaan paka ug kabaskog sa lawas ug kaon na ug tuda aron manambok na hehehe hinaot unta mahurot ng akong hinimo na nilosak cake nemu hahaha gikapoy raba jud ko ug lusak ana dong hahaha. I love you." (Happy birthday, son! I wish you good health, and that you eat a lot so that you will gain weight. I hope that you will eat all this nilusak cake that I made for you. I got tired of pounding this, son. I love you)," Lea Orito Cruza, Lixter's mother, posted her message on social media with a molded cake from ''nilusak na saging'' for his youngest son's birthday.
Nilusak is a native Filipino delicacy made from pounded or mashed boiled bananas with grated coconut and sugar.
Netizens who were inspired also greeted Lixter. He even received more cakes, ice cream, and gifts which prompted their family to extend his birthday celebration.
"I never expected that many people will like and share my post," Lea shared.
"If you only knew, it was all that he wanted for his birthday," she added, citing that they could not even believe her son's wish because children would usually want expensive cakes but he just wanted his celebration to be simple.
"He did not even want spaghetti and preferred to have pancit. Thanks to everyone especially those who sent him gifts. We don't know you but many people gifted him. We love you, Lixter. I love you," she said.
