More athletes enter Games Village ahead of Tokyo Olympics

More Filipino delegates are entering the Athletes’ Village with less than a week left before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics officially fires off on July 23.

As of Sunday afternoon, weightlifter Elreen Ando, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, shooter Jayson Valdez, their coaches and several officials from the swimming team arrived from Manila to join with the early PH delegation who arrived on Saturday.

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and her coaches were also seen on board their flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday as the bulk of the 19-strong delegation are expected to enter the Village this weekend.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and several national sports associations continuously update the status of the athletes on their social media accounts as the country remains upbeat on their campaign for the elusive first Olympic gold medal.

Early in the day, world champion Carlos Yulo and coach Munehiro Kugimiya entered the Athletes’ Village from their training camp in Japan where Yulo has been based for the past years.

Some athletes share their early experiences at the village including the four-man boxing team composed of Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Irish Magno and Eumir Marcial.
