‘Win’ throws hat into Vice Presidential ring

CEBU CITY – Count Senator Sherwin Gatchalian in the list of possible contenders for vice president in the 2022 elections.

Gatchalian said he is open to running for vice president and is already in the process of consulting with supporters.

"I am open to that. We are already consulting with our friends and supporters," Gatchalian said in Tagalog during a press conference on Friday here.

Several billboards bearing the photos of the senator and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have sprouted in Metro Cebu. Each billboard carries a slogan" Kay Sara, Win Tayo."

"Those posters are the idea, suggestion of our friends in Cebu," said Gatchalian, who was in Cebu to attend the gathering of the Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines.

Gatchalian, a member of the Nationalist People's Coalition, said his camp is already in talks with the group of Duterte-Carpio but "nothing is final yet."

Gatchalian said what he will bring to the table is his "20 years in public service, excellent and efficient delivery of public service and integrity."

Gatchalian admitted that entertaining the idea of gunning for vice president may change if President Rodrigo Duterte goes on to vie for the second-highest position in the government.

"Definitely it will affect my decision because we are in talks with Mayor Sara," said Gatchalian.
