Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto is this year’s Ateneo Loyola Schools commencement speaker

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has been chosen as the commencement speaker for this year’s commencement exercises of the Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola Schools.

Sotto, 32, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science at the Ateneo in 2011, and completed his masters in public management at the Ateneo School of Government in 2018.

“We hope that our students will be inspired by Mayor Sotto’s example of honor, integrity, and tireless service to the nation,” said Dr. Maria Luz C. Vilches, vice president for the Loyola Schools, in a memo released on Friday, July 16.

In February, the US State Department recognized Sotto as one of the International Anti-corruption Champions Award recipients in recognition of his work and commitment to truth, transparency, and accountability.

The International Anti-corruption Champions Award of the US State Department aims to recognize individuals who have demonstrated leadership, courage, and impact in preventing, exposing, and combating corruption.

Under his leadership, the local government of Pasig City has been hailed by many for its pandemic response.

The commencement exercises will be held online on Oct. 24, with the theme “Gawing Buo ang Bansa: Muling Likhain ang Dangal, Integridad at Katapatan.”
