Robredo urged by Bicolanos to run for president

A campaign for Vice President Leni Robredo to run for president in the May 2022 polls is snowballing among her supporters in Bicol, her political bailwick.

Robredo’s fellow Bicolanos have joined together for the launch of “Bicol Solid for Leni” volunteer movement on Sunday, July 11.

Bicol Solid for Leni, spearheaded by co-lead convenors and lawyers Angel Ojastro III and Mila Raquid-Arroyo, is a group of volunteers from different parts of Bicol pushing for Robredo to seek the country’s highest post next year.

Ojastro said the vice president has the heart for public service and she can lead the Philippines to recovery amid problems caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

“Siya lang ang may mga programa na mabilis makatulong sa mga Pilipino. Naabot na niya ang kasulok-sulukan ng Pilipinas sa pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan. Proven na po iyan (She is the only one who has programs to help Filipinos faster. She has reached every corner of the Philippines in helping our countrymen. That’s already proven),” he said.

Describing Robredo as “honest and decent,” Ojastro added her capabilities as a leader has been tested, especially in this time of pandemic.

The vice president has yet to confirm plans to run as president, saying only that she will be the one to announce it if she’s already decided.

She is seen as the lone candidate who can unite the opposition with both the Liberal Party and opposition coalition 1Sambayan pushing for her to run as president.

Ojastro is hoping that all Bicolanos will unite behind Robredo if she decides to run for president.

“Each one must reach one. Mangyayari lang ito kung magtutulong-tulong tayo para kumbinsihin ang kapwa Bicolano hanggang sa laylayan na suportahan ang pagtakbo ni VP Leni Robredo bilang pangulo (This can only happen if we will help each other to convince our fellow Bicolano and those in the margins of society to support Robredo’s candidacy for president),” he added.

Various sectors from frontliners, youth, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), to women have declared their support to Robredo in the hopes she would listen to their clamor to run for president in 2022.
