Calamba LGU hopeful about IATF approval of private resorts' reopening

CALAMBA, Laguna - The city government is hopeful that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) will soon approve its appeal to allow private resorts in Barangay Pansol to reopen.

Calamba Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) Head Jeffrey Rodriguez told the Manila Bulletin on Monday (July 12) that Mayor Justin Marc SB. Chipeco has spoken with Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles about the issue. Nograles said he will personally follow up on the request.

The city government has already appealed to the IATF regarding the reopening of private resorts twice - once in May, and again in June.

On July 8, Chipeco, along with Department of Tourism (DOT) Region IV-A Director Michael A. Palispis, met with resort owners and workers to explain the current status of the request.

Resort workers were given food packs as the local government unit (LGU) waits for the official response from the IATF.

In May, some resort workers have put up signages all over Barangay Pansol, saying that they’re going hungry and calling for the reopening of resorts. There are approximately 1,400 resorts in the city, 90 percent of which are private resorts.
