Murder raps filed vs woman who killed nine-month-old niece in Koronadal

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – Police have filed murder charges against a woman for killing her nine-month-old niece while under her custody as a nanny here last Wednesday.

Police Lt. Col. Joven Bagaygay, Koronadal City police chief, said Marilou Bayno, 30, stabbed to death her niece who was entrusted to her by the mother, the suspect’s older sister who works as a domestic helper abroad.

Police said the victim succumbed to several stab wounds in the body.

Police and barangay officials arrested the suspect in Barangay Caloocan, this city, after she escaped after killing the baby inside the victim’s house in Barangay General Paulino Santos.

Danilo delos Santos, councilor of Barangay Gen. Paulino Santos, said the suspect’s relatives earlier reported to authorities that the victim died after she fell down from the cradle.

He said police authorities learned of the crime incident after they broke into the house where they discovered the body of the victim.

The suspect was placed under the custody of the Koronadal Police City station pending the filing of a formal complaint at the City Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect is believed to be suffering from a post-partum depression caused by the death of her baby after giving birth more than a year ago.
