Galedo, Velasco dominate in Nat'l Trials

Veteran Mark John Lexer Galedo and upcoming Kate Jasmine Velasco ruled their respective divisions in the PhilCycling National Trials for Road on Saturday at the Clark Freeport Zone.

Galedo, riding for 7-Eleven Roadbike Philippines, proved age doesn’t matter at 35 years old after capturing the men’s individual time trial (ITT) gold medal with a time of 32 minutes and 2.2 seconds over the 24.60-kilometer course.

The 21-year-old Velasco, meanwhile, reigned supreme in the distaff side by clocking 27:52.814 over the 17.1-km course.

Velasco outplayed Philippine Navy-Standard Insurance teammate Marianne Dacumos, who settled for the silver by crossing the finish line 22.187 seconds after. Maura Delos Reyes settled for bronze with 28:35.452.

In the men’s side, Navyman Jhon Mark Camingao (32:28.0) and Joey delos Reyes (33:00.3) came in second and third in the event organized by the PhilCycling headed by Rep. Bambol Tolentino.

Galedo, however, appeared on track to also winning the men’s criterium in the afternoon, but failed after overshooting a sharp right-hand bend.

Go For Gold’s Dominic Perez topped the double points final 20^th lap to pile up 13 points for the criterium gold medal, followed by Navyman Steve Hora (10 points) and Go for Gold’s Ronnel Hualda (10).

Mathilda Krog, 19, topped the men’s criterium with 23 points while Velasco and Avegail Rombaon of Devel came in second and third with 17 and six points.
