DSWD to run after scammers posing as agency representatives

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) vowed Friday, July 9, to look into and “take appropriate action” against individuals who were posing as agency personnel, and were asking for one’s personal information in exchange for financial assistance.

The DSWD advised the public “to be extra vigilant” and not to entertain calls from these scammers.

“Reports from various people including media persons have been received by the Department that they were called by individuals introducing themselves as DSWD employees and were asking for their personal information in exchange for financial assistance,” it said in a statement on Friday.

The social welfare department said “it will not ask for such information pursuant to Data Privacy Act of 2012 and will take appropriate action and investigation regarding the incident.”

It urged the public to immediately report the suspicious callers to the DSWD Agency Operations Center through the 8888 hotline.

The DSWD had warned beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) against scammers who were introducing themselves as DSWD personnel just to get their sensitive and personal information, such as their cash card numbers.
