K-pop boy band 2PM made their comeback last June 28 with the release of their seventh studio album “Must.”

2PM members were the guests in the latest episode of the Korean variety TV show “Knowing Bros.”

During the show, Taecyeon’s military service was discussed. Taecyeon enlisted in September 2017 and was discharged in May 2019.

One of the show’s cast members said, “Taecyeon looked so good in uniform that the picture of it became a sensation” that he was dubbed as “Captain Korea.” Photos of Taecyeon during military service showed him with big muscles.

“Is that muscle or fat you gained?” asked mainstay Kim Young-chul.

Taecyeon revealed that "when I was in the military, there was so much to eat that I ate a lot. And I exercised a lot. I gained a lot of muscle and my body got bigger. I think I went up to 99 kilos.”

Since his discharge, he has lost weight, saying, “Right now, compared to then, I have lost 18 kilos.”

"He looks good in uniform but the reason he earned the title 'Captain Korea' is that he gave up his American citizenship and went to do military service in Korea,” said mainstay Lee Soo-geun.

When asked why he gave up his American citizenship, Taecyeon said, “I received a lot of love from a lot of people and I thought it was one of the duties I should fulfill and an aspect that I should protect. I thought it was something I ought to do. That was why.”

"When we went to the US for our concerts, I could just go because I had a green card. But now, I have to go to the embassy for a visa interview in the morning,” added Taecyeon.

Taecyeon earned praise for portraying his role as Jang Jun-woo in the hit drama “Vincenzo.”
