ILOILO CITY – For violating the ban on mass gathering, Iloilo City Congresswoman Julienne Baronda and Sr. Supt. Jerry Candido, Western Visayas regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), were ordered to do community service.
“In the spirit of fairness and equity, your compliance with the imposition of community service is sought,” said Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas in a letter to both officials.

To recall, Baronda and Candido attended the June 10 inauguration of a fire sub-station at Alta Tierra Village in Jaro district. This was despite the city being under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status due to rising COVID-19 cases.
Treñas was only following the recommendation of the Iloilo City Legal Office that Baronda and Candido have to do community service.
“You have openly manifested your respective intentions and admissions that you have attended the said activity, and if and when sanctions are imposed, you are willing to undergo the same,” added Treñas.
In his letter, Treñas said the Baronda and Candido can conduct “lean-up drives, tending of city plants, tree planting activities, community kitchen and other similar activities’.
