Duterte taunts 'bobo' Trillanes: PH will implode if you become president

President Duterte feared that the Philippines will implode if former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV becomes the next president, saying his staunchest critic was stupid and has illusions of grandeur.

Duterte made the statement after Trillanes accused Duterte and his long-time aide Senator Bong Go of corruption worth P6.6 billion of public works contracts during his the President's time as Mayor of Davao City.

In his meeting with executives of the ruling PDP-Laban Party on Tuesday, July 6, the President said the Philippines was doomed if Trillanes will be his successor.

"Kung yan ang mag-presidente, sasabog itong Pilipinas (The Philippines will implode if he will become president). It will not explode, it will implode," he said.

According to the President, Trillanes has "illusions of grandeur" after the latter claimed of being the principal candidate of the opposition with Vice President Leni Robredo supposedly running as governor of Camarines Sur.

"You know si (this) Trillanes, I think he has-- may (he has) illusions of grandeur," Duterte said.

"Tignan mo? Wala namang ibang ano (See? There's no other candidate?). Every candidate is always a 'principal' . Bobo talaga ang yawa (He is really stupid)," he added.

On Monday, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said Trillanes will not be able to prove any of his plunder allegations against Duterte and Go, pointing out that the former Navy officer has been doing this since the start of the present administration.

"Walang napatunayan noon, walang mapapatunayan ngayon, at walang mapapatunayan bukas (Nothing was proven before, nothing will be proven now, and nothing will be proven tomorrow)," he said.

On Wednesday, President Duterte said Trillanes was "all talk" and tasked Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo to deal with the former senator.

In a nine-minute video, Trillanes said construction firms owned by Go's family had won multibillion-peso government projects since President Duterte was mayor in Davao City.
