The historic Italian scooter maker, Vespa, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The iconic brand, whose name means wasp, traces its origins all the way back to April 23, 1946, its first patent filing date. Since then, Vespa has led new trends in social customs, music, youth culture, and becoming a timeless icon in the process.
To mark this momentous occasion, Vespa is offering the 75th Anniversary edition of the Primavera (150cc) and GTS (300cc) only this year.
The Vespa 75th Anniversary body is all-steel as always, in a special “Giallo 75th” shade, an original metallic yellow. The side panels and front mudguard display the number 75 in a slightly stronger shade. 75 is also on the front of the scooter. The traditional “tie” is an opaque pyrite yellow. Believe us when we say that some of the photos do not do the color justice. It really is more beautiful in person.
Other exclusive touches include a special nubuck leather saddle in smoke grey with piping, wheel rims painted in grey with a diamond finish and chrome-plated details like the “tie” ornaments, the badge on the front mudguard, the instrument cluster surround, the muffler cover, and the rear-view mirrors.
The 75th edition comes with a rear luggage rack. It houses a round bag whose shape replicates the typical spare wheel holder. It’s made from velvety-soft nubuck leather in the same color as the saddle.
The bag is detachable and has a shoulder strap for easy carrying. It clips on the luggage rack with a quick-release mechanism. It also comes with a waterproof cover. Like all Vespa special editions, the series is identified with a plate behind the leg shield. Exclusive to the GTS are foldaway chrome passenger footpegs.
It may look retro but the Vespa 75th editions are possibly the most hi-tech yet. All the models come with a new 4.3-inch TFT color display. This new, digital instrument cluster is compatible with the Vespa MIA smartphone connectivity system.
Lucky buyers will get a Welcome Kit that includes an elegant Italian jacquard-silk scarf with handsewn hems, a vintage steel Vespa plate, a personal Owner’s Book and eight collector postcards with images from the eight decades of the Vespa story.
The Vespa 75th Anniversary editions are now available in the Philippines from all authorized Vespa dealers. It’s offered at PhP438,000 for the GTS 300, and PhP298,000 for the Primavera.
