PRC on Monday, July 5, said that in line with the campaign for Blood Donor Month this month, its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard J. Gordon encourages plasma donations from COVID-19 survivors who are “fully vaccinated as we deal with the presence” of the Delta variant.

“Blood plasma donated by those who have recovered from COVID-19 infection usually has high levels of COVID-19 antibodies,” PRC said. “The convalescent plasma may be given to those with COVID-19 to boost their ability as they battle against COVID-19,” it added.

Blood donations remain essential Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, PRC said that giving blood remains an essential service.

“Hindi tumitigil ang pangangailangan ng dugo. Ang Red Cross ay laging handa para tumulong (The need for blood donation never stops. The Red Cross is always ready to help),” Gordon said.

Meanwhile, PRC reminded possible donors that they “must feel healthy when they donate, so people who are experiencing the side effects from the vaccine will have to wait until their symptoms get better to donate.” The PRC Convalescent Plasma Center was opened in July last year.

As of Sunday, July 4, the center has accommodated 444 plasma donors.

PRC said that there are currently five convalescent plasma machines that can accommodate five patients at a time.

For those who are interested in donating blood, they may contact the PRC National Blood Center or the nearest PRC Chapter in their areas.
