2 areas remain under Signal No. 1 as 'Emong' moves away
Batanes and Babuyan Islands remained under Tropical Cyclone Winds Signal Number 1 on Monday evening, July 5, as tropical depression “Emong” continues to move away from the country.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of Emong over the coastal waters of Itbayat, Batanes as of 10 p.m.
It has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph while moving west northwestward at 40 kph.
The state weather bureau said only Batanes and Babuyan Islands remained under Signal No. 1, with strong winds expected to prevail over these areas.
Moreover, Emong is forecast to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands until Tuesday morning, July 6.
“The tropical depression is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility morning and make landfall over Fujian or Guangdong Province in southeastern China tomorrow afternoon or early evening,” PAGASA said.
“Emong may still intensify into a tropical storm prior to landfall over mainland China. Post-landfall, Emong is forecast to rapidly weaken into a remnant low,” it added.
