SC extends until Dec. 31 lawyers' notary public commissions

The Supreme Court (SC) has extended up to Dec. 31, 2021 the notarial commission of lawyers issued in 2019.
This was the second extension granted by the SC since the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in March last year.
In Dec. 2020, all notarial commissions were extended until June 30, 2021.
In a resolution, the SC said “during this additional six- month period the notaries public whose terms are deemed extended shall continue performing notarial acts using their existing seals.”
The new extension was sought by Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Domingo Egon Q. Cayosa, Philippine Bar Association (PBA) President Rico Domingo, and Sherisa P. Nuesa and Jose Jerome R. Pascual II, chairperson and president, respectively of the Judicial Reform Initiative, Inc.
Not all lawyers are notaries public who notarize documents for legal and other purposes. Lawyers need notary commissions issued only by the SC.
