‘Crash Landing on You’ star Son Ye-jin to headline new drama ‘Thirty Nine’

Korean actress Son Ye-jin, who starred in the hit series “Crash Landing on You,” has been cast in a new drama.

It was announced that Son Ye-jin has agreed to star in the drama “Thirty Nine,” her comeback work on Korean TV channel JTBC in three years after “Something in the Rain” in 2018.

“Thirty Nine” is a 12-episode mini-series co-produced by Lotte Cultureworks and JTBC Studio, a romance that deals with deep stories of friendship, love and life of three friends who are turning 40.

It will be written by Yoo Young-ah, who wrote the drama “Encounter” starring Song Hye-kyo and Park Bogum, and the film “Kim Ji-young: Born 1982” starring Jung Yu-mi and Gong Yoo. It will be directed by Kim Sang-ho, who helmed the drama “Run On” starring m Im SiWan and Oh Shin Se-Kyung.

Son Ye-jin will play the role of Cha Mi-jo, the director of the Gangnam Dermatology Clinic. Co-starring in the drama is actress Jeon Mi-do, who is currently in “Hospital Playlist 2,” who will play Son Ye-jin’s best friend Jeong Chan-young .

“Thirty Nine” will start filming in August after the rest of the cast have been confirmed.

Son Ye-jin’s popularity further rose when she starred in “Crash Landing on You,” which became the third highest-rated drama on Korean cable TV.

On New Year’s Day, Son Ye-jin confirmed that she is in a relationship with co-star Hyun Bin after a Korean media outlet published photos of the two dating.

“I’m thankful for being able to meet a good person and I will try to take care of it (relationship),” she posted on Instagram.

In his speech at the 2020 APAN Star Awards on Jan. 23, Hyun Bin, who won the grand prize, said, “I would like to thank Son Ye-jin’s Yoon Se-ri for being the best partner of Ri Jeong-hyeok. I was able to imbue Ri Jeong-hyeok and make him look great thanks to the character Yoon Se-ri that Son Ye-jin portrayed well.”
