Acer Swift 3x: The best things come in 'light' packages

When it comes to Acer's Swift series of notebooks, they are known for being lightweight and focused on productivity. It is also suitable for people who travel frequently. With this in mind, Acer introduced the Acer Swift 3x.

This laptop is one of the first to be equipped with the 11th generation Intel Core i7 CPU and Intel Iris Xe Max graphics, ensuring high performance and battery efficiency. But with all these technologies and hardware in one small package, how does it work in the real world?

Acer Swift 3x Design and Features

The Swift 3X is built in an aluminum chassis and is available in a variety of colors (Steam Blue and Safari Gold). Except for the plastic screen frame that holds the matte screen in place, it is all aluminum. The chassis is very hard and relatively light, only 3.02 pounds (1.37 kg), although it has a discrete GPU inside, it is also relatively thin, only 0.71 inches (17.95 mm). For those who find 13 inches a bit too narrow and 15 inches a bit too bulky, the 14-inch profile is a good compromise.

Acer used an ergonomic hinge design in the Swift 3x. When the lid is opened, a rounded exterior raises the back of the laptop which provides more comfortable writing angles. This helps with wrist pain, but the downside is the internal fan’s exhaust is visible between the keyboard and the display

The left side of the laptop includes most ports: Thunderbolt 4, USB-A 3.2 (Gen 1), HDMI 2.0, and an Acer exclusive charging port. The right side includes another USB-A 3.2 (1st generation), 3.5mm audio jack, and a Kensington lock slot. It's great to see Acer switch to USB-C charging on their laptops because it can provide users with an additional port once the laptop is fully charged. If you need additional connections, especially SD or microSD card readers, the separate Thunderbolt 4 port can always connect to one of the best Thunderbolt 4 hubs and docking stations.

In addition, the laptop is also equipped with a capacitive fingerprint sensor integrated with Windows Hello, which means you can easily log in to Windows with the touch of a finger. Compared with other parts of the body, the Precision touchpad is of the right size.

The keyboard is a standard Acer product with small chocolate keys and small fonts. The keyboard is equipped with a white LED backlight, which is useful if you often work in the dark.

Eye-popping colors and details bring images and videos to life in the 72% NTSC color gamut. With the use of a narrow bezel, offering up to an 84% screen-to-body ratio, users see more of the 14-inch FHD IPS screen. Eye strain is also lessened, and colors are improved with Acer ExaColor™ and Acer Color Intelligence™.

This screen should serve you well when you’re focusing on professional editing or design. Its maximum brightness can be comparable to working outdoors or if not in direct sunlight. That’s how bright and vivid the display of the Swift 3x is.

With an 11th Gen Intel Core Processor and the revolutionary Intel Iris Xe MAX graphics, you’re able to finish tasks faster with plenty of power to spare for content creation or even the occasional games.

The Swift 3X is Acer's first laptop equipped with Intel Iris Xe Max. Because both the CPU and GPU are from Intel, Intel's Deep Link technology can be used. It provides dynamic power-sharing to ensure that the CPU and GPU are getting adequate power, and it provides additive AI to aid AI-based tasks such as rendering and encoding. Content creation workloads such as video editing are where the Intel Iris Xe shines. You can edit 1080p 60FPS video files with ease with little to no lag.

When the laptop is charged, the fan noise is obvious, and the wide exhaust vents pointing towards the screen can make the situation worse. The fan is also large enough to meet the cooling needs of the internal hardware. At least the laptop won't get too hot; its aluminum body will certainly help in this regard. The 58.7 Wh battery can reach up to 9-11 hours. In cases of emergency, it can also be fast-charged to provide 4-hours of use for just 30 minutes of charge time.
