In partnership with Robocare Solutions Inc., the local government of Manila rented six units of the Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL), the worldā€™s first wearable cyborg-type robot.

The launch of the robotic rehabilitation technology in the Ospital ng Maynila is part of the city governmentā€™s Robotics Rehab program which it inaugurated on June 29.

Manila Mayor Francisco ā€œIsko Morenoā€ Domagoso attended the inauguration.

HAL will be offered for free for patients of Ospital ng Maynila.

The robot can be used by patients who have or had spinal cord injury, Parkinsonā€™s Disease, stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), traumatic brain injury, and progressive intractable neuromuscular diseases.

Based on Robocare Solutionsā€™ webpage, HAL allows a patient to move and exert ā€œbigger motor energy than usual.ā€

The exoskeleton robot also increases a patient's ā€œfunctional mobility, over-ground walking, muscle strength, and motor function.ā€
