The Ospital ng Maynila now has a technology that can help patients who are physically challenged or have neurological disorders in their recovery.
In partnership with Robocare Solutions Inc., the local government of Manila rented six units of the Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL), the world’s first wearable cyborg-type robot.
The launch of the robotic rehabilitation technology in the Ospital ng Maynila is part of the city government’s Robotics Rehab program which it inaugurated on June 29.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso attended the inauguration.
HAL will be offered for free for patients of Ospital ng Maynila.
The robot can be used by patients who have or had spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s Disease, stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), traumatic brain injury, and progressive intractable neuromuscular diseases.
Based on Robocare Solutions’ webpage, HAL allows a patient to move and exert “bigger motor energy than usual.”
The exoskeleton robot also increases a patient's “functional mobility, over-ground walking, muscle strength, and motor function.”
