Cusi floats Go-Duterte tandem as PDP-Laban official entry in 2022

Energy Secretary and Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP)-Laban vice chairman Alfonso Cusi on Tuesday said he believes majority of the members of the ruling political party are inclined to support a Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go and President Rodrigo Duterte tandem in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

Cusi said he foresees that a 90 percent support could be quite low since many of the party members want Duterte to run for vice president.

“That is my personal belief, considering the clamor that I have seen when we were going around. Based on that, 90 percent support would be quite low should President Duterte decides to run,” Cusi said in an interview on ANC Headstart.

“Whoever the President decides to be his running mate, I’m sure the party will be supportive,” he added.

He also said PDP-Laban’s members in Cebu and other areas are supportive of a Go-Duterte tandem, and even drafted a resolution.

“There was a resolution. There was a resolution for a Go-Duterte tandem,” he said.

“But in fairness to Sen. Bong Go, he told us not to include him in the plans. However, I told him I wasn’t the one who pushed it,” Cusi said.

“That was a result of a consultative meeting in Visayas and was an output and we have to report that,” he added.

Go had earlier denied having any presidential ambitions, but Duterte had bared that the lawmaker dreams of becoming a president.

Nevertheless, Cusi said the PDP-Laban party will go through the process in choosing their standard bearer.

“Is it (Go-Duterte tandem) possible? It is but, will it happen? That is another story,” he said.

“Definitely what I will support is whatever the decision of the party will be, whoever is chosen by the party, I will support that. I will tow the party line, that is the guiding principle for him,” the Cabinet official stressed.
